Choosing a Care Home for Elderly Parents

This past month I have been doing the unenviable task of finding a care home for my elderly mother. She moved into a bungalow 2 years ago but at 83 years old she can now no longer look after herself. There were one or two incidents in the past few months which convinced me that now was the right time to consider full time residential care in a nursing home. My search started in the area she lives. I began with some recommendations from her GP and also included nearby care homes found on a care homes directory and Google. I am the sort of person who researches things online far too much. For things like gadgets I often think this is a waste of my time, but in this case I obviously wanted the very best. So I had no issues with spending hours and hours searching for reviews and any comments I could find in discussion forums and blogs. After calling 11 homes in the area I decided that I wanted to view 4 of them. So I visited and had a chat with the manager at each. I was shown around t...

Bucket List Ideas

Recently I have been reading up on bucket list ideas because I want to make sure I have as many amazing experiences as possible. Over the years I have done some pretty cool stuff and visited some amazing places. However I recently have been getting the feeling that I am not doing enough with work always taking priority. Here are a few things which have inspired me and been added to my bucket list Wing Suit Jumping Sky diving has always been one of those things I just have to do one day. It has always been top of my bucket list, until I saw wing suit base jumping. It is the closest thing to flying and looks like a wonderful experience. Check it out in the video below, there are lots more to see on Youtube.   Rock Climbing and Base Jumping (Freebasing) I love the idea of climbing up a massive wall and then just jumping off at the top. Freebasing in the video below means you actually climb the top part without any safety gear. This means if you fall it turns into a base ...

My Favorite Gadgets

Not got much to post about this week so here are my favorite gadgets and why... 1- iPad Air I am in love with my slimline iPad Air. Previously I had the Mini which was nice but too small for many uses. I did have the original iPad but it was too big and heavy. The iPad Air keeps the same screen size but the weight and size is improved massively. For me this is the absolute best tablet. I've tried various Android tablets and none come close to the iPad in terms of quality and user experience. Everything runs so smoothly (for the most part) and it just looks and feels great. Some apps do crash on me quite often so hopefully this will be something fixed with the forthcoming iOS8. My other gripes are that you can't play all video files on this tablet (unlike with Android) and the price hikes for more storage are extortionate, so I stuck with the tiny 16GB version. 2- Macbook Air I am also in love with my other Apple gadget. The Macbook Air is also a very slim and lightwei...
